The Judicial Council of California, halted all eviction lawsuits statewide. The Council’s emergency order prohibits the issuance of any Summons (service of summons is the first step in the court action against the defendant), prohibits any default judgments and postpones all trials for 60 days from the initial date for trial. This order remains in effect for 90 days after the Governor lifts the state of emergency declared on March 4, 2020. In summary, unlawful detainer actions will not be heard by the courts while this order remains in effect.
